A Brief Discussion of Round Barrel Manufacturing Processes
Jul 11, 2026
After receiving the design drawings from the customer, the drawings must first be analyzed and the corresponding raw materials purchased to ensure that all main and auxiliary materials are complete and free from quality or material issues. First, a CNC laser cutting machine precisely cuts the sheet metal into developed plates for the cylindrical shell, arc-shaped end cover blanks, lifting lugs, and other parts according to the customer’s model. Computer nesting improves material utilization, and burrs and slag are removed after cutting. Next, the flat plate for the cylindrical shell is sent to a four-roll plate rolling machine to pre-bend both ends and form it into a cylinder. It is then welded at both ends using an automatic longitudinal seam welding machine, followed by surface treatment. In the next step, processes such as rib pressing with a beading machine and flattening with a punch press are used to preliminarily form the cylindrical shell. Subsequently, argon arc welding is used to weld lifting lugs, grounding nuts, and other accessories for preliminary fixation. Next, the bottom plate is positioned on the cylinder by a dedicated operator, leveled to the designated reference line, and welded by a robotic welding system. Finally, CO2 gas-shielded welding is used to further secure the lifting lugs and other accessories. If flanges and nameplates are included in the design, these two components must also be welded last. After the cylindrical tank is basically formed, further processing is required. The production process of the cylindrical transformer oil tank is completed through grinding, powder coating, screen printing, quality inspection, and other steps.
